Hungarian Defences also participate in creating jobs
The Hungarian Defence Forces as one of the country’s biggest and most secure employers are participating in the government’s economy protection programme and job creation through the introduction of a special volunteer reservist military service, the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence said at the Saturday press conference of the Operational Group responsible for the containment of the coronavirus epidemic.
Szilárd Németh highlighted that also in the present coronavirus situation members of the defence forces are serving their country in an exemplary manner, true to their oath, and are guarding Hungary’s peace and independence, the security and freedom of the Hungarian people.
The Hungarian Defence Forces, too, played an outstanding and essential role in the fact that Hungary has won the first phase of the fight against the virus, the State Secretary pointed out.
He said in addition to border control, patrolling and guarding responsibilities, with its unique biological neutralisation capability, the Hungarian army has disinfected more than 990 elderly care homes so far. Defence control units are supervising so-called critical companies and critical infrastructure elements that are essential for supplying the population and the economy in 105 places. In 13 counties, officers are serving at the heads of 51 hospitals as hospital commanders in order to maintain epidemic preparedness.
In the second phase of the containment of the epidemic, we must take the steps that are necessary for restarting life, focusing on the creation of jobs by the state. Quoting Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, the State Secretary highlighted that “we will create as many jobs as will be destroyed by the virus”. He added that the Prime Minister also mentioned that the army had started an intensive recruitment campaign.
Mr Németh said the defence forces are extending a helping hand to everyone who has lost their jobs in consequence of the coronavirus epidemic. In 25 locations around the country they are awaiting citizens aged between 18 and 50 for special volunteer reservist military service.
Persons can apply in recruitment offices and at the county government offices. They must have a certificate of good conduct and a health fitness certificate, and must agree to attend a six-month training course. As part of this, participants will attend training 8 hours a day in military drilling, military tactics, service regulations, terrain and navigation skills, health care skills, communications and shooting skills. At the end of the training course, participants will take a military oath. Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays are days off. In addition to a monthly HUF 161,000 pre-tax salary, they are also entitled to meals, health care supplies and clothing as well as to a travel allowance. At the end of the six months, the trained volunteer reservists may return to civilian life without any restrictions or may extend their service by another six months, he added.
Mr Németh highlighted that the Hungarian Defence Forces would like to keep the best-trained and most committed participants by offering them a career or contract service option.
Hungarians can equally count on soldiers in peacetime and in a state of danger, at the time of disasters and pandemics, the State Secretary stressed.
