If employees are infected by coronavirus at their workplace, is that considered an accident at work and will they receive sick-pay for accident?
The virus infection is not an accident, so it cannot be considered an accident at work. It may be considered an occupational illness if it can be proven that the origin of the infection was the workplace. The condition of defining an occupational illness is that a doctor reports the infection as a suspicious occupational illness, it is investigated by the health and safety authority and registered by the labor-hygienic and occupational healthcare authority as an occupational illness. The social security authority will make the final decision regarding the allowance.
